Have you ever been curious about the names on our Memorial Plaques in the front garden? Or have you wanted to share special memories, stories, or life accomplishments of a loved one, who, as a past member, has contributed to our UUSD community? The Pastoral Care Committee is creating a Memorial Book to honor UUSD members who have died.
Family or a friend of any member who has died will be invited to submit a one-page sketch of the named person’s life. We are creating a short outline to guide the writing, intending to have a somewhat uniform appearance in the finished product. Of course, each story is unique, so we encourage creativity over formulaic formats. There will be a one-page-per-name limit, but more than one person could collaborate on writing that page. There will be no fee for having a page included in the Memorial book. This book will be as inclusive as our congregation is. The only requirement is that those honored are past UUSD members, and the writing is done not by the Pastoral Care Committee, but by those who wish to include their loved one, or even themselves, in this book.
Each one-page submission will be retyped on special paper and placed in a clear plastic sleeve in a (faux) leather three-ring binder. The written memories will be placed on the front side. On the back of the page, as an option, a photograph, artwork, poem, or perhaps a song may be included.
