Connecting with Families
We welcome you and your family to UUSD. Families have become much more complex over the last few decades. Your family may mean your chosen family, blended family, adoptive family, or extended family. Our UUSD families are straight and LGBTQ, partnered and single, and come from a wide range of religious backgrounds. Together we create a unique spiritual community where we share and explore our paths as parents, partners, and families.
Why bring your family to UUSD?
- Our community will partner with you to help raise children who are kind, respectful, fair-minded, caring, and strong enough to stand up for what is right.
- Our classes will reinforce the values you as parents teach at home, and help your children develop a moral compass, embrace diversity, and cherish the world they live in.
- Our programs will help your children explore the beliefs and customs of world religions and the ideals and principles that shape Unitarian Universalism.
Family Activities
- Annual picnics

Family Covenant Group
Saturday, December 6, 2025: The Family Covenant Group children and parents enjoyed pizza and potluck sides before the parents engaged in a lively conversation with Rev. Heather. The children gathered and rolled out clay, cut out the shapes, painted and decorated ornaments for our new 10” Christmas tree in the foyer! Come join in the fun of decorating the tree and singing in the season on Saturday, December 13 at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday, February 8, 2025: Our CFE Family Covenant Group had a Ceramic Night hosted by Sarah Schaber and Adam Emel-Firestone. The children, and some adults, participated in decorating ceramics. The artistic abilities of all were amazing and the energy was fantastic. We had 32 adults and children participate. Rev. Heather met with the parents to discuss a variety of topics while the rest of the participants helped decorate, clean, squeeze paint, wash brushes etc. It takes many volunteers to make evenings like this to happen. If you are interested in becoming a CFE Volunteer, please reach out to Dr. Heather at CFEDirector@uussd.org.
