The Executive Team (ET) is seeking volunteers who would be willing to serve as hosts when our facility is rented by an outside group.

The role of the host is to be an ambassador for UUSD and to ensure that our beloved building is treated with care. The host will serve as the eyes and ears of UUSD and will report any concerns to the ET. Volunteers will be notified in advance of the events and will choose whether or not to commit to hosting any specific event. Ideally, hosts will work in pairs. ET will provide information regarding the date and time of the event; the nature of the group; the size of the event; whether or not AV equipment will be in use; and whether or not the kitchen will be used.

Hosts will make sure that the building is unlocked and opened at the start of the event and then closed and locked as is done for church-sponsored events. Hosts will assist with the thermostat and window shades as needed; remind guests of the policies regarding food and beverages; and will encourage guests to exercise care in using our building and any of its contents as they have agreed. The host is not expected to provide any services or use of UUSD-owned property that has not been agreed to in advance. For example, if guests have not requested in advance to use the kitchen, hosts will not be expected to permit use of the kitchen. Should the guests move any furnishings, it is the role of the host to make sure that the guests return all furnishings to their original configurations.

There will be a brief orientation for any members or friends of UUSD who volunteer to serve as hosts. Hosting an event can be a wonderful way to provide service to UUSD. It is also a great opportunity to build relationships within our local community. The rental of UUSD provides a good source of revenue for our congregation, and filling this need in our surrounding community is a great way to introduce local people to UUSD.

Please contact the execteam@uussd.org with any questions about becoming a host.
